Palm Sunday- Computer Lesson
Jesus Entry into Jerusalem
Praising God

Exchange Volunteer Notes:
This lesson uses "My 100 All-Time Favorite Bible Stories" which is a program that is on the "No Shelf" at SundaySoftware.com. To see why access this web page: here and scroll down to read about this software.

Background
All four gospels tell us about Palm Sunday and Jesus last week on earth. This show us how important this is. It all begines with either a donkey and a colt or just a colt and Jesus riding into Jerusalem on it.

Here we see Jesus recognized for the King he really is but in only a few days these same people would be asking for Jesus to be put to death.

quote:
Jesus did come, not as a warring king on a horse or in a chariot, but as a gentle and peaceable King on a donkey’s colt, just as Zechariah 9:9 had predicted. Jesus knew that those who would hear him teach at the Temple would return to their homes throughout the world and announce the coming of the Messiah.
Quotes taken from Life Application Bible

The people cried out Praise God, Hosanna, and other words that are showing the true glory that Jesus deserved.

We still celebrate this event today with palm branches is some churches and processionals into churches.

After Jesus’ resurrection, the disciples understood for the first time many of the prophecies that they had missed along the way. Jesus’ words and actions took on new meaning and made more sense. In retrospect, the disciples saw how Jesus had led them into a deeper and better understanding of his truth. Stop now and think about the events in your life leading up to where you are now. How has God led you to this point? As you grow older, you will look back and see God’s involvement more clearly than you do now.

Objectives
1. Find the story in the Bible
2. Know that Jesus is Messiah.
3. Know that Jesus was Cheer on that day and by the end of the week those same people called to have him killed.

Lesson
Today we are going to celebrate the Jesus Christ our Messiah. We will be having a Heavenly Celebration. Begin by asking the students if they can remind a celebration, a birthday party or cheering at a game (football, volleyball, etc..) Ask the what one do they think represent or is similar to Palm Sunday? All answer are correct but the best one would probably be the cheering at championship game. Ask the students how cheering is done at a game?

Well to day we have something to cheer about today. We are going to cheer for Jesus.

Have the students shout “Hosanna” 3 times or until the are shouting it loudly. Ask them what else we could shout to praise God. (Ex: Honor and Glory to God, giving High 5’s, etc.) Have a student /shepherd list them on the black board. If they are having a hard time ask them how the cheer on a friend or at a game. Tell the students to think about something that they would like to praise God about and write it on a note card.

Have the students turn in their bibles to Psalm 33. Psalm 33:1-5 tell us that because God is Creator, Lord, Savior, and Deliverer, he is worthy of our trust and praise. Because he is faithful and his word is dependable, we can rejoice and sing, giving thanks and praise. Begin by dividing the class in 2 and having them read it responsively, either by verse doing verse 5 to gather.

For the 2nd graders we will be using "My 100 All-Time Favorite Bible Stories"

Palm Sunday Ideas for the Computer Lab

What would stones shout? "Rock on!"
It's a fun question you can ask kids.

What were the soliders, pharisee, priests, disciples, crowds shouting?

What might children have asked a parent when they saw Jesus was riding on a donkey?

What was going through Jesus' mind about each group? About where he was headed?

What was God saying to Jesus as he rode in?

Kids can make the computer SAY ALOUD their response to those questions using one of several programs you may have:

Kid Pix 3
Storybook Weaver Deluxe
Writing Blaster
Let's Talk

There are various ways to approach MAKING the computer speak the kid's answers. One is for the teacher to pose the questions one at a time to the entire class, wait for them to compose an answer to the question, then play them back one a time for all to hear.

Or you could assign a different "group at the parade" to each computer. Have each computer group work independently (with your advice) to craft an answer to the question you are asking each "group at the parade." Then have each computer group share their "spoken" results with the class.

Non-readers love making the computer talk too, they just need help typing.
