Hi Folks,
We're starting to plan our Nicodemus rotation. I'm looking to round out the rotation.org's great lesson set that is posted here. Specificially, looking for computer ideas and cooking ideas which weren't included in the posted lesson set. Nicodemus postings are pretty sparse.... anyone have any ideas? All workshop ideas welcome! I'm thinking we will be focusing on: Jesus' differences with Pharisees, the "light vs. dark" symbolism, and rebirth by the Spirit.

Thanks for your help!
Jaymie

Hey over there in Virginny.

John 3/Nicodemus has some very memorable sentences/verses. Grades 3 to teen could create a string of key sentences in Cal & Marty's Scripture Memory game CD. Use the 'add comment' feature and 'Add Quiz Questions' feature to key in on the unique concepts in each verse/phrase. This is a memory technique using Cal & Marty I call "walking through the story."

Here would be the key verses I'd choose(Shortened "Neil" version based on NRSV).

There was a Pharisee named Nicodemus, a leader of the Jews.

He came to Jesus by night and said, "Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher who has come from God."

Jesus answered him, "no one can see the kingdom of God without being born from above."

Nicodemus said, "How can anyone be born after having grown old? Can a person enter their mother's womb a second time and be born?

Jesus answered, "I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God without being born of water and Spirit."

16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life."

Grades 1 and 2 in second half of school year can do KEY WORD SHORTER PHRASE memory work -assembling by sight with some help. Quiz questions can be read aloud by them.

-Nicodemus visited Jesus
-Jesus, you are a teacher from God.
-Jesus said, you must be born from above.
-God loved the world and gave his only Son.
Younger students can work on verbally repeating John 3:16 following the software.

Hey Jaymie,
We did science in our kitchen because we couldn't think of anything to cook other than cookie hearts for God so loved the world. Really, how many cookie hearts can kids eat?

I decided I might as well get around to posting it, so it's under Nicodemus. Hope it helps.

Here's a "cooking" lesson I just ran across and saved for later myself! Go to:
www.childrensministry.com (which is Children's Ministry Magazine's website). You have to log in with your email address, then you can access lots of stuff on their site.

Then go to the Ideas for Lessons link at the top of the page, then Devotions, then the lesson that says Born of Water and the Spirit.
