Oy Vey.. I have to write a computer lab lesson plan for our Writing Team on Nicodemus. There's nothing "about Nic" in software I want to use (a gnash in B.com but I'm not biting).

So I have this idea in my head and would like some help fleshing it out.

DUELING TALKING COMPUTERS
Using a computer's "text to speech" capability we'll simulate a conversation between Jesus and Nicodemus in the kids' own words.

Short of explaining the technicals right here, most recent model computers have "speak aloud" capabilities built into the operating system. Our lesson would show you how to use them. An alternative is to use the familiar Kid Pix text to speech playback capabilities. Getting the computer to talk out loud is always a crowd pleaser.

The idea is to get pairs of computers talking to each other, getting the kids to consider their responses based on scripture, and then throwing them some additional "curves" with questions we provide each computer to speak.

After Bible study, students will type the dialog into their computer from the Bible passages. Example: "We know you're a teacher Jesus, but only God can do miracles." To which the other computer must respond using Jesus' words.

After they have worked through Nic and Jesus' discussion, I'd like to have the students open sealed envelopes that have key questions to ask the other computer (I keep thinking of one of the skits popular in the "Who's Line is it Anyway" tv show where they do this).

Example Key Question from Nicodemus:

Water and Spirit? What do you mean Jesus, tell me!

Doesn't sound too geeky or wacky to me.
I work better from the position of knowing what the objective for the lesson is. What do you want the kids to learn about Nicodemus?
When I think of Nic, I am always drawn to the concept of him coming to Jeus "in the dark" and Jesus told him how to "find the light" -- but what is your focus for this one?

We had the kids "translate" the passage in John 3 into Surfer Dude Language, which we then typed into Kid Pix 3 and had the voice read back. Very funny and they did a really good job.
