Dig - Main Content
We are going to read a story, All I See is Part of Me, about a little boy who discovers that he and all creation are connected. The author, Chara Curtis, uses the words “part of me” to explain the connection. The illustrator, Cynthia Aldrich, tells about the connection with her pictures.
As you listen, think about the awesome things that tell you of God’s love and what picture you might create to tell about your awesome God.
The story is a bit abstract. As you read it comment for the little ones that “The stars don’t really talk with words, do they?” Explain that what we see can tell us as much or more than the words we hear.
The last page of the book is “No end…” Tell the children that they will be creating their own illustration for another last page for the book. The words on their page will be “No end to God’s love! I know because…”
Show them the paper they will be using and point out the texture. Illustrate how to hold the pencils or pastels at a 30-45 degree angle to create the same appearance as the pictures in the book.
Talk to each child about what he or she wants to show.
Pass out scrap paper and pencils. Have them do a sketch to plan the picture because erasing will be difficult, almost impossible, if they change their mind.
Distribute the supplies for the project. Encourage the children as they create a picture.
There is a blank page at the back of the book where the child can put the picture, if it is their own book. Or it can be matted and hung in their room at home after it is in the rotation art show.
Reflect - Closure
Have each child explain the book illustration.
OPTION TWO
Note: The second portion of the lesson is for use with the book On the Day You Were Born.

PRESENTATION
Open - Introduction
Distribute Bible and read Psalm 8:3-4.
Dig - Main Content
We are going to read a book, On the Day You Were Born, that was written and illustrated by Debra Frasier.
As you listen think about which part of God’s creation impresses you the most.
Share the authors scientific information, age appropriate in detail, about each picture. It is found on the back five pages of the book.
God made all the colors. Which is your favorite? Give each child a favorite color of paper. Show them how to add large areas of other colors by cutting or tearing the shapes. Smaller shapes can be added with sponge stamping or cut out shapes that are glued on.
Mat the pictures. They may be taken home after the rotation art show.
Reflect - Closure
Have each child explain his or her creation as you put it on the wall.
Give thanks to God that we are the most important part of God's awesome creation.
