I'm looking for a simple way to help kids keep Elijah & Elisha apart. With similiar names, they're getting confused. Any tricks?
I'm thinking of a "trick" like the one I've been known to use for Cain and Abel. We tell the kids it's NOT TRUE, but that it's a way to help them remember. "Cain killed Abel with the leg of a table." Since I learned that one, I've never forgotten who did the killing. I have a teacher that is asking for this by Sunday, April 28. Any help would be appreciated. THANKS!!! --- Exchange Volunteer modified title to fit naming conventions. Add your ideas on this topic by using REPLY. This message has been edited. Last edited by: CreativeCarol, |

Two ways that just came to mind, emphasizing the JAH in Elijah and "j" in just and also the SHA in Elisha and "sh" in shouted.
In a fiery chariot Elijah just went. Elisha shouted, "To heaven he was sent". Elisha shouted "I saw Elijah just go to heaven!" |

Perhaps you can play a "repronouncing game" throughout the whole lesson. Whenever their names are mentioned you must pronounce them in their extended form.
Eli jah, or Eli YAH to be more phonetically correct, means "My God is Yahweh" or "Yahweh is God." Eli jah is a shortened form of the Hebrew: "Eli yahu." The y and j sounds are extremely similar in Hebrew. Eli sha means "My God is Salvation." Elisha is a shortened form of "Eli shua" --shua meaning salvation. Neil |

J comes before S in the alphabet. Elijah came before Elisha. That's how I remember!
