JACOB AND ESAU

NOTES ON ROTATION SET

This "rotation set" is different than any of the others created by the Rotation.org Volunteer Writing Team. Each Workshop for "Jacob and Esau" has two sections: Part One and Part Two.

As the group looked at the Scripture passages for Jacob and Esau, Neil suggested that it was really one story with several episodes that means more when seen as a whole. Therefore, the Team developed a new approach for dealing with "big" stories. Eight Workshops have been prepared: Art, Banners/Textiles, Cinema/Video, Computer, Cooking, Drama, Games, and Puppetry. Each Workshop, however, has a Part One to the Lesson Plan as well as a Part Two. There are also suggestions for Storytelling, but it is not a complete Workshop. The Bible Background lists the Scripture for each part and provides thorough commentary on each segment.

We suggest that congregation's use the material in two consecutive rotations. One possibility would be to select a specific number of Workshops to use -- three, four, five, or six -- and to do a Rotation on Part One for that number of weeks followed by the next Rotation on the remainder of the story using Part Two of the same Workshops. In most cases, the learning is cumulative. That is, what is taught in Part One is needed for what takes place in Part Two. In each Workshop there are suggestions for a brief review of Part One before proceeding with Part Two.
