OBJECTIVES

Children will:

Locate the story in the Old Testament portion of the Bible.

Tell the story in their own words.

Define the words prophet and disciple.

Discuss the relationship between Elijah and Elisha -- teacher/disciple.

Explore the meaning of Elisha's request for a double portion of Elijah's spirit.

Explore the meaning behind Elijah's passing the mantle to Elisha.

Discuss ways they learn from parents and teachers and pick up their "mantles."

Memorize 2 Kings 2:9b.

Reflect on the story of Elisha receiving the mantle from Elisha, the Scripture Passage, and the Memory Verse.

Create prayer mantles through a cooperative project using a squiggle art technique on felt strips.

Use the Elijah & Jonah CD (Sunday Software Inc.) to learn the account of Elisha receiving the mantle from Elijah and participate in a whirlwind to review the story.

COOKING [Lisa Martin]

Discover the importance of having a foundation for ministry by making two pies - one with crust and one without.

DRAMA [Ruth Wilcox]

Engage in drama exercises including Emotional Greetings, Line Repetition, Mirrors, and Pass The … to review the Elisha story.
