In Disciples Designs Artist's Studio, the kids (and grownup kids) created self portraits which encompassed the memory verse from 1 Samuel 16:7  "For the Lord does not see as mortals see; they look on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.  (NRSV)"  Each artist's work shows the way they see themselves on the outside, then small mirrors were glued over their hearts because that's how GOD sees them!

Can you explain a little more about the mirror placed over the heart on the self portraits? Is the idea that our hearts are to reflect God and His character? I'm just having a little trouble understanding how to relate to the kids how the mirrors show how God sees them.

Produce the mirrors, and explain that a mirror is to be glued onto each portrait where the heart would be. The mirror is to show that when God looks inside at our hearts, He desires to see His reflection. He wants to be living in each of our hearts, and for our thoughts and actions to reflect Him. Remind the kids of the phrase that was popular a few years ago, WWJD, or “What Would Jesus Do?”
