This looks like a good book for children on baptism: So...You Want to Be Baptized?
Produced by: WordAction Publishing Company
Find it at the Nazarene Publishing House site at www.nph.com. Then search for Baptism.

The original question...

Posted August 13, 2008

I am writing a rotation lesson on Holy Baptism, does anyone have any ideas on a video that can be used for this? I have been searching the internet with not much luck.

Lisa's reply...
You might want to use clips from multiple movies rather than just one. You can look at baptism scenes in Bible stories. Contact your denomination and see if they have any videos that might mention baptism -- they probably don't have an entire one, but perhaps something on what it means to be a church member, or about our church may have a 10 second scene of baptism. If you have time, you could make a video of the next baptism in your sanctuary. I know we have rules about cameras in worship, but if something was set up quietly, discretely, for such a purpose, we would certainly allow it.

There are some scenes in "Finding Nemo" (and probably other videos) where a fish is out of water, flopping around, can't breathe, will certainly die if he doesn't get in water soon. Compare that clip to our own need for the waters of baptism.

What is baptism mean for you in your faith tradition? Try thinking of movies that bring that idea forward and connect that to our belief about baptism.

Hope this helps.
Peace,
Lisa

We did a puppet show of the Baptism of Jesus starting with John preaching and baptizing and ending with the dove. After reviewing why the water is used and showing how water cleans we had some time left so we discussed who John was and as a filler in the drama classroom (but could used anywhere), we review who John was by using our 5 senses. Have the children close their eyes to do Touch, Listen, Smell. Touch – camel fur, Listen – running water, Smell – honey, Sight – picture of wilderness, Taste – grasshoppers or honey (all the children decided they only wanted to try the honey) I did not realize how the children would react and remember this experience.

Can't remember if this was an original idea or one I saw elsewhere on the website, but you can use "The very quiet cricket" book for sound too.
