Here is a drama idea:
Have a group particularly a group on non-readers participate in a drama in the following manner. Divide the group into 3 smaller groups. The three groups are: Bartimaeus, Jesus and the crowd. Use a prop to hold up when it is a particular groups turn to "talk." (Maybe hold up a cross for Jesus, a small white candy cane for Bartimaeus, and for a crowd? You decide!) The workshop leader acts as the narrator, filling in information as needed. Start off the lesson by reading the story from the Bible. Review the story asking the students to retell it to you. Then do the dramatization.
For example things start off as...

Narrator: Bartimaeus was sitting by the side of the road begging. He heard a lot of noise and asked...
The Bartimaeus group is allowed to respond appropriately.
Narrator: The crowd answered him...
The crowd group is allowed to respond appropriately.
Narrator: So Bartimaeus started shouting...
The Bartimaeus group is allowed to respond appropriately.
Narrator: The crowd started telling Bartimaeus to...
The crowd group is allowed to respond appropriately.
Narrator: But Bart wouldn't be quiet, and called out even louder...

and so on.
